Kulture Fashion Spaces

Check what went down at the Kulture Fashion Spaces, a platform in collaboration with local fashion creatives. The latest edition of Kulture Fashion Spaces featured Prime Obsession, DEAD., The Threaded Man and and GalxBoy. Check out profiles of each of the creatives below provided by the Kulture Fashion Spaces team.

Prime Obsession

“We made our obsession our job.”

What do you get when you merge the richness of African sensibilities with the sophistication of futuristic minimalism? Prime Obsession is the product of both these worlds; their pieces anchored in simplicity but presented with the theatrics and performance value of the most intense traditional ceremony. Not just items of clothing but a brand that encompasses a spirit, the ladies of Prime Obsession tell tales with colourless garments and looks that are as articulate as any written narrative.

DEAD.

“People only love you once you’re DEAD.”

Drawing from personal experience to completely guide the creation process, founder and designer, Thabang ‘Bangy’ Rabotha, has garnered a cult following with the beautiful chaos that is known to its supporters as DEAD. Eccentric in its nature, just like Bangy, nothing about the brand is traditional, allowing the brand to play in both the street wear and high fashion arenas and also evolve creatively by the season.

The Threaded Man

“Style is identity.”

The Threaded Man collective is one of the continent’s leading authorities in modern African fashion and original style. Launched in February 2013, TTM has been providing its following with the latest style trends, introducing fashion forward ideas to the continent, curating looks for some of the most recognizable figures, shows, brands and productions around the world, and have been a catalyst for sophisticated lifestyle in general.

GalxBoy

“Life is design.”

Founded in 2008 in Mamelodi, Pretoria the GalxBoy ethos is as straightforward as the brand’s slogan dictates: “Smart. Retarded. Ambitious.” The name ‘GalxBoy’ – a math equation (Gal x Boy) spelling out the chemistry between males and females – is the conceptual foundation of the brand, consistently manifesting itself in the duality of each seasonal release. Rooted in progressive and unconventional thinking, GXB have set themselves apart from local and even international outfits with consistent innovative designs and concepts.
