Riky Rick flew from South Africa to attend the TOMMYNOW TommyXLewis event and bring fans exclusive behind the scenes access, including an interview with iconic American designer Tommy Hilfiger. The experiential show celebrated the clashing of two creative forces, fusing Lewis Hamilton’s fashion-forward street vibe with Tommy Hilfiger’s all American essence.
In a poignant post on social media, Riky recounted his first experience with the Tommy Hilfiger brand and his full circle moment meeting the designer.

This is your third TommyXLewis collection co-designed with Lewis Hamilton. How has this collaboration evolved?
Our collaboration has always been about building on the strong TOMMY HILFIGER menswear heritage and infusing it with Lewis’ personal style. Each season we evolve how we push boundaries in the way we blend these two worlds.
What is your most memorable moment from collaborating with Lewis?
Off the track, it was incredibly moving to witness Lewis’ emotional reaction when our first collection came to life on the TOMMYNOW runway in Shanghai. On the track, we felt so proud to have the TOMMY HILFIGER flag logo on Lewis’ speed racing car, as we watched him win the Monaco Grand Prix 2019.
How involved is Lewis in the design process?
Lewis is really into the details and brings his unique vision to every design. He has the consumer in mind, and thinks about what styles would work for them.

What is your main inspiration for the Fall 2019 TommyXLewis capsule collection?
From easy styles like the tracksuit to more formal looks like the wool coat, our aim was to capture fashion-on-the-go with a modern twist.
The word “Blessed” is used throughout the collection – what does this mean to you?
Throughout my career, I have had amazing opportunities in racing, fashion and music, which have taken me around the world to meet new people and draw inspiration from different cultures. For me, the word “Blessed” is about remembering to always be thankful for what I have.
