Cassper Sweet And Short 2.0

Cassper Carries On His Tradition of Experimentation With Sweet And Short 2.0

Cassper Nyovest’s sixth studio album has arrived in the form of Short And Sweet 2.0. It serves as the second instalment in what’s shaping up to be a series of Cassper’s passion projects where he embraces experimentation. The first Sweet And Short was an elaborate homage to kwaito, which saw the platinum-selling rapper take a more kwaito-esque musical direction. The sequel sees him donning the amapiano hat and staking a claim in the sub-genre that has taken the South African music industry by storm and steadily engulfing the global music scene.

Known to be a serial collaborator, Cassper worked with a plethora of well-known amapiano, dance and house artists on the album. Vocalists such as Samthing Soweto (“Joy”), Boohle (“Siyathandana” & “uMacashelana”) and Lady Du (“Angisho Guys” & “Bhanoyi”) are some of the collaborators he enlisted. Speaking to Apple Music about how most of the collaborations came to be, he says: “Abidoza and I started making music, then heard other people’s voices on these songs. We would play them all the music we had and they’d pick the songs they wanted to be on. That’s why I love amapiano so much – collaboration is so important to the genre.”

As one of the most decorated South African artists of the last ten years, Cassper Nyovest has built a solid musical reputation for himself to be able to make these kinds of decisions. With an unwavering fanbase, he can trust that his multitudes of fans will take kindly to whatever his musical direction is each time he makes a foray into new album territories. The mixed to positive reception of the first single off Sweet And Short 2.0, “Siyathandana” featuring Abidoza and Boohle, proves this notion.
