DJ PH Assembles An Avengers Team of SA Hip Hop on “Serious (Streets Remix)”

On June 18, DJ PH released a Makwa produced track in the form of “Serious”, featuring Cassper Nyovest, Lady Du and the producer extraordinaire, Makwa. The amapiano and hip hop hybrid of a song spotted a catchy, infectious hook in which the artists on it repeatedly declare themselves and all they’re into as being “serious”.

Taking an already fly joint to upper echelons, DJ PH returns with a mammoth sized remix that features an unprecedented 15 emcees on it. “Serious (Street Remix)” retains the original beat but is now a 7 minute onslaught of premium emcees – veterans, mainstays and newcomers alike – going off and flexing on how “serious” their varied prowess is.

Blaklez sets it off, with Reason following soon after with a rare vernac verse. Zakwe delivers with the rhyme patterns as he usually does and Cassper Nyovest – who didn’t record a new verse for the remix, remains one of the standout performances on the remix. Bloemfontein duo Stino Le Thwenny almost steal the show with their stellar verses, paying homage to the late Dr Mageu of TKZee Family, before Touchline comes through sliding in with an impeccable flow, rapping “Slay queen s’choma kakhulu kodwa s’sanok’buz’ ukuthi ama350 angena nini?”. Kid X also delivers a masterful verse to close off a great effort and one of the most impressive posse tracks to come out of South Africa in a while.
