“Sponono” is the latest single to be released from AKA’s posthumous album Mass Country. The single is the fifth from the album and the second since the artist’s untimely in March. Garnering over 2.6 million streams already, the single has already been certified gold.
Produced by 031 CHOPPA, Xivonaki Manzini as well as Tshupo Khutsoane, “Sponono” is a love song, with the title being a term of endearment for one’s significant other. Speaking of his partner, AKA’s lyrics on “Sponono” said, “this is real love, it’s ride or die… perfect combination, suit and tie, angel, halo see you in my dreams in porcelain white.”
031 Choppa said about the track, “Wrote this hook thinking about the love of my life, My Sponono. And on this song I’m expressing that I would do whatever it takes to be with her. I produced the beat with the gents think I was just gonna produce then me and Son started vibing out then Forbes walked in and said that’s the hook for the beat. The rest is history.”
“Sponono” is officially being released to national radio stations, amplifying the promotion potential of the single through different supporting activities with the featured artists. You can still listen to the track on Mass Country, here.
