Released on Friday, Ayanda Jiya’s latest EP, Queen, gives a perfect glimpse into what the talented songstress has been up to. At just seven songs, the EP potentially serves as a precursor to a longer full-length album on the horizon.
Sticking to her tried and tested formula of collaborating with contemporary emcees, the EP boasts heavyweight features such as frequent collaborators A-Reece and Stogie T, as well as Kwesta and FLVME.
From a production point of view, the EP’s soundscape is crafted primarily by the pair of Thulani Nenungwi and Simphiwe Mhlongo. On “No Games”, they flip the classic house song “You, That I’m With” by Phonique featuring Ian James Whitelaw. On “Talk To Me” they flip “Can We Talk” by Tevin Campbell, as Ayanda Jiya reimagines the song in her own distinct way.
QUEEN is a welcomed addition to Ayanda Jiya’s growing discography, which showcases a proficient songstress with a sound understanding of the music she makes, given her consistency and high quality of her output each time she strikes out.
