K.O Connects With Maglera Doe Boy On Latest Single “Let Me Cook”

The Mpumalanga rapper releases his third single of the year.

K.O ushers in the second quarter of the year with new music. A few months after releasing “SWave Freestyle” and “Y.O.U.”, the former Teargas  frontman returns with his latest single “Let Me Cook”, this time assisted by Kanana native Maglera Doe Boy. The song finds the two MCs in their lyrical gymnastics bag, while also flexing with creative wordplay, impressive rhyme schemes and witty anecdotes.

Produced by K.O frequent collaborator Lunatik, “Let Me Cook”, is a chilled out slow groove, with enough space to allow the two lyricists to show their mantle on the mic. K.O teased the collaboration on his social media a week prior to the release, which increased the anticipation for the song.

Creatively interpolating the lyrics to Frank Ski’s single “Whores in This House” (1993) (itself sampled more recently in the popular Cardi B and Meg The Stallion 2020 song “WAP”), K.O does a refrain where he says, “Hoes in the lobby,  …”. This is after he raps a humorous verse that’s a mixture of him bigging himself up (Another ghetto episode in my hood, pocket full of money in so I’m good) and talking some hood shit (“Zabalaza, mogudo Monday s’khiphi babalas, vuli ifridge zidli Häagen-Daz…”) Maglera’s feature run has just been appraised with the addition of his “Let Me Cook” verse. He weaves a tale that begins with him receiving a phone call from a friend, who’s inviting him to hang out, rapping “Qeta ho tshwarwa ka call ke ntj’aka, a re ‘u waar san?’”. The story progresses from two perspectives denoted by a change in his vocal tone as he delivers the rest of the verse, painting a picture punctuated with witty lines, and in true Maglera fashion, wide references – ranging from the white guy in the house group MiCasa (J-Something) to a Key and Peele, PSP, Paris Saint Germain, Enzo Ferrari, Loui Vuitton, amongst other things.
