Producer and DJ, Morda, together with vocalist Brenden Praise have featured on the original soundtrack for The Color Purple. The Pulitzer prize-winning novel by Alice Walker was first adapted into Steven Spielberg’s critically acclaimed film in 1985 before its 2023 iteration starring Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, and Taraji P Henson.
The soundtrack went live this past week the 15th of December ahead of the release of the movie which has earned Fantasia a Golden Globe nod for her role in the upcoming movie. Morda and Brenden Praise got the opportunity to remix a gospel single, “Mysterious Ways”, by Tamela Man and The Colour Purple Ensemble for the movie’s soundtrack.
“I immediately reached out to Brenden Praise who recorded the original version of the song and because we know the magic we produce together, we knew we had made an instant hit,” expressed an excited Mörda. “I can confidently say that the Lord has worked his mystery on my life and career, he has given me the talent to bring joy and healing to people’s lives through my music,” he continued.
Following the tradition of the 1985 classic, the 2023 version of the film’s soundtrack is executively produced by music icon Quincy Jones. He is joined by Scott Sanders, and Larry Jackson, the founder/CEO of Gamma.
“I am so immensely proud that the filmmakers and Warner Bros. Pictures chose us to collaborate on a hugely cultural album that musically brings to life this reimagined classic,” shared Jackson.
“The Color Purple, in its many iterations, is unquestionably hallowed ground in black culture. Just as film director Blitz Bazawule has done a spectacular job in taking the film to another level artistically, we, too, wanted to bring an equally adventurous, creative take to this expanded soundtrack.”
