UMI Festival serves up its second instalment

Come Saturday the 29th of February, Johannesburg’s favourite monthly rooftop party for emerging DJs and live performances, Feel Good Series, presents UMI: Our Music Festival, the mother of all Feel Goods. UMI takes the ethos of the Feel Good Series events and ups the ante. The micro music and lifestyle festival will be hosted at Victoria Yards, transforming the space into a creative fun house of music, film, and art.

As a special feature of the micro-festival, and following the community-oriented philosophy behind ‘our’ music festival, the audience got the opportunity to ‘Curate Our Line Up’ by recommending who they’d like to see perform, making it truly a festival for the by people and by the people. Now in its 2nd year, the festival has grown from an 8-12 hour day of not only the best and freshest musical acts, it also features a performance art stage, art exhibitions from participating Victoria Yard galleries and artists. The event also has a silent music film festival featuring Nthato Mokgata & Lebogang Rasethaba’s Future Sounds of Mzansi, Red Bull Music Films’ Rave & Resistance by Zandi Tisani, Petite Noir’s La Maison Noir, Zombies by Belgium based Congolese rapper Baloji, as well as Makere Thekiso’s Unknown Union.

Live performances include Bongeziwe Mabandla, The Charles Gene Suite, Lazarus Man, ByLwansta and Koeksista with music from Ang, Uncle Party Time, Slice Frederico and many more. Tickets can be found on Quicket.
