Following his four year hiatus from releasing music and being in the public eye, beloved South African artist Anatii has returned with the release of a brand new single “Punisher”. The Electronic Bushman, as he is fondly known, has built a reputation as one of the most perceptive artists of his generation, therefore it comes as no surprise that he is taking a rather unconventional route in releasing music.
He announced earlier that he has removed all of his solo albums from all digital streaming platforms, immediately sending Twitter into a frenzy, with people speculating as to what this meant.
Based on his subsequent tweets, many felt like he may be retiring from making music.
But as it turns out, Anatii was just signalling a new way of taking control of his art and releasing it on his own terms. This has become clearer now that he has released his latest single as a purchasable NFT.
Speaking on the single, Anatii says it’s “a symbol of detachment from the status quo which will be paving the new ways of creating and identifying one’s worth. ”
