Zikode Records officially launched earlier this year in collaboration with UMG Africa. The label’s first single, “Bambelela”, made a statement with some of the hottest talent in the amapiano circuit – Young Stunna, Pabi Cooper, and Felo le Tee – featuring on it. Today, one of the label’s five artists, Stixx, releases his first single together with DBN Gogo, “Buya”. It’s packed with features; Nvcho, Nia Pearl, Madlamini, Son, Mathandos, Nicole Elocin, and Nannette all contribute and stack a variety of melodies for a polished result.
“Buya” is Stixx’s first single but he’s no stranger to the music industry. His most prominent work thusfar has been on the seven singles that he produced for Venom and Shishiliza’s “Love Is Pain” but he’s also produced for shows like Big Brother. He joins Nvcho, Unlimited Soul, Stopper, and Elton K as Zikode artists as DBN Gogo ventures out into raising the platform of other musicians as a label head.
The young crew recently ventured out to the 40th year anniversary of Nike’s AF1 where all five were simultaneously playing on five different decks. “Dedicated to removing all boundaries that society has created towards success. A sonic wave, driven by the reality of tomorrow,” was the description afforded to Zikode. As the rest of the cohort gear up to release, we cant wait to hear what comes out of SA’s newest record label.
