Johnnie Walker Celebrates TitoM & Yuppe With $15,000 Cheque For Song Of The Year At The Trace Awards

Following the recent Trace Awards held in Tanzania—a night dedicated to celebrating the rich talent and creativity of African artists—Johnnie Walker  as the Platinum sponsor proudly sponsored the highly anticipated Song of the Year category and  the Best Newcomer category of the Awards. The former was claimed by rising stars TitoM & Yuppe for their chart-topping hit, ‘Tshwala Bam’.

In honour of their outstanding achievement, Johnnie Walker Africa officially handed over a $15,000 cheque (R 290 671,48) to the duo in recognition of their cultural impact and undeniable influence in shaping the sound of the continent at the Diageo head office in Johnannesburg on Friday, 11 April 2025. What’s more, the duo has also been awarded with an immersive brand trip to tour the home of Johnnie Walker at the Johnnie Walker Princes Street, Scotland this year.

Tshwala Bam became more than just a song—it evolved into a global anthem, igniting dance floors, social media, and playlists worldwide. It solidified Titom & Yuppe as trailblazers in South Africa’s evolving music landscape and fresh voices of a new generation.

Ifeoma Agu, Group Head of Culture, Influencer and Advocacy at Diageo Southern, West and Central Africa, shared: “Johnnie Walker has always stood for progress, creativity, and bold expression. Titom & Yuppe embody the spirit of a new generation of African artists—unapologetically authentic, innovative, and unstoppable. We’re proud to walk with them as they take their sound to the world.”

In expressing their gratitude, Titom & Yuppe added: “Winning Best Song of the Year is a dream come true. We made ‘Tshwala Bam’ from the heart, and to see how far it’s travelled is surreal. Thank you to Trace, our fans, and to Johnnie Walker Africa for recognising our journey and believing in the power of our sound.”

This moment reflects Johnnie Walker’s commitment to honoring artists who push boundaries, shift culture, and continue to inspire through their creativity. As African music continues to rise on the global stage, Johnnie Walker remains proud to stand behind the bold voices, powerful beats, and unforgettable stories shaping the continent’s future sound.
