Muzi has dropped two singles from his upcoming album uMuzi. “Milk & Honey” and “Light” follow “eMtunzini” as the second and third singles off the album, dropping “eMtunzini” and its video with the album announcement in August.
“Milk & Honey” features British rapper The Last Skeptik in a mellow and minimalistic production that works incredibly well with the contrast of his grime raps. They’ve described the sound as “surrounded by warm synths and muted trumpet melodies” with the overall message of the track being, ““In a world of
excess, in the land of milk and honey, I choose less. I choose my introverted nature. I choose myself.”
“Light” speaks to his Zulu roots in a genre-fluid track reminiscent of 80s bubblegum music but with a tinge of modern percussion and groovy synths. Dedicated to his late mother and the family values she imparted, Muzi says of the track, ““‘Light’ is an ode to my mother. Keeping me sane through the darkest times. My light…”
Together with the double-release, Muzi has revealed the tracklist of the forthcoming album. Feature artists include Chris Martin, Madala Kunene, and Abazukulu baMaKhoza. Muzi and the Coldplay frontman have a working relationship going back a few years, after Chris Martin first saw him perform at Afropunk Paris in 2019. Muzi has since released a remix of Coldplay’s “Orphans” and Chris Martin added his keys to Muzi’s “Sondela Forever” thereafter.
With the album uMuzi set to be released on October 13, feast your ears on the two singles “Milk & Honey” and “Light” in the lead up.
