Nasty C to lead Rhythms of Zamunda album inspired by Coming 2 America

Def Jam Recordings recently announced the imminent arrival of Rhythms of Zamunda, a compilation album of music inspired by Coming 2 America. The album will be compiled of music by African artists, inspired by the upcoming sequel to the 1988 comedy classic, Coming to America.

Leading the project is Nasty C’s “Black & White” featuring Ari Lennox, but also has a number of tracks by South African artists including Prince Kaybee and Msaki’s “Fetch Your Life,” Tellaman’s “Overdue,” Gemini Major and Anatii’s “Loke Loke”, Ricky Tyler’s “Everything,” and De Mthuda and Njelic’s “Shesha.”

The 16-track compilation – curated by CEO, Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa Sipho Dlamini – arrives in tandem with the recently revealed Coming 2 America soundtrack and the comedy Coming 2 America.

“It was important for Def Jam Africa to be involved because the first film was so legendary to Africans in the diaspora,” said Sipho Dlamini. “The film franchise is tongue-in-cheek but conveys a rich quality of life in Africa. That is reflected in the music on Rhythms of Zamunda. We wanted to represent some of the sounds that are relevant, impactful and current on the continent.”
