An event that was launched to bring like-minded people together, Grant’s Whisky took their flagship Triple Good Sessions down to the coast this past Thursday for the event hosted at The Chairman in Durban.
With the theme “Good Things Start with Three”, guests were entertained by a trio of musical acts, and Nicky Shange kicked of the revelry. A Durban-based vocalist, Nicky was headhunted by Busi Mhlongo to be her backing vocalist in 1998 and has worked with the likes of Thandiswa Mazwai, Jonas Gwangwa, and Sibongile Khumalo since. Her incredible voice was outdone only by her on-stage demeanour as she moved through cover versions of songs with her band and had the crowd proverbially eating from the palm of her hand.
The Chairman’s in-house DJ Dums took over with an eclectic set of old-school jams and house staples before DJ Fresh brought the house down with his set. Lakokot’ ipiano man! With a percussionist as part of his performance, the veteran DJ showed us exactly why he’s had decades in this game.
The artisinal interior of The Chairman added to the ambience as the waitresses whisked past with platters of food. Gran’ts Whisky was in plentiful supply, and a good time was had by all.
Check out some pics of the night below, and keep your eyes peeled for the next installment.
