Last September, Jacquemus posted a series of images from their Family Love campaign shot in Hawaii. While the apparel in the images weren’t out of the ordinary, what caught everyone’s eye were the shoes donned by the models. Clearly identified as Nike sneakers, they seemed to be unreleased and weren’t readily identified as any of the available to purchase silhouettes. The rumour mill went into overdrive about a possible collaboration and it’s been confirmed by the sportswear giant today. Nike x Jacquemus is coming.
The brand announced that for their 50th anniversary year Nike will be collaborating with Simon Porte Jacquemus’ label for a collection that invites sports style into everyday life. They announced that, “their aim is to invigorate celebration of the multidimensionality of contemporary athletes.”
Simon Porte Jacquemus said of the project, “For this collaboration with Nike, I wanted to create a collection that reinterprets athletic women’s sportswear in a minimal way. I have always been inspired by vintage ACG pieces and Nike campaigns from the ’90s. Having this imagery in mind, we designed women’s athletic wear with sensuous details and neutral colors, along with my own interpretation of the Humara, my favorite Nike shoe. It was important for the collection to be accessible for all bodies, and to be a natural blend of Jacquemus style and Nike performance.”
Supported by Nike’s rich heritage, Jacquemus imagines a world where outdoor pursuits and court sports co-mingle within a new, integrated aesthetic. Forthcoming apparel and footwear collections, which begin releasing later in the Northern Hemisphere summer, interweave a variety of hallmark Nike designs with unisex footwear and accessories as a way to invite integrated sport-centered style into everyday life.
While official images of the collection haven’t been released yeet, it remains unclear whether the images of the footwear released in September are an accurate depiction of the collaborative designs. We will, however, find out in just over a month’s time. Nike x Jacquemus launches June 28 exclusively on jacquemus.com, and across Nike retail globally beginning Nothern Hemisphere summer 2022.
