The Patta Academy is a talent school that stimulates young entrepreneurs, and uplifting their community is central to their core focus. The academy was created by the Patta brand that started out as a streetwear store but rose in prominence to become one of the most sought after worldwide. Their collaborations with sportswear giant Nike have been many, and they’ve just added another. Together with cultural agency Mamakashaka, the three bring you The Next Wave, a program looking for the next wave of creative entrepreneurs.
The Next Wave will take place at the Nike Shapa Centre in Soweto from the 12th to the 13th August. The two day exchange has a curated programme of workshops, talks and panel discussions led by industry experts. The fashion workshop, led by UNKNWN PRJCTS, will give you an opportunity to upcycle your threads while getting insight into building a brand. The music workshop brings Ganja Beatz on board. The trio of superproducers will give guidance on music production and navigating the industry. The photography workshop will be led by Shaniqwa Jarvis. The internationally renowned photographer will guide participants on the best use of their camera.
The partnership between the three brands is a natural fit. Mamakashaka’s experiences have an engaging nature and authentic feel. Nike’s multidisciplinary Shapa Centre has a commitment to facilitating local partnerships, and Patta’s Academy is a testament of upliftment.
